Evil Eye Protection — How to Guard Yourself Spiritually and Mentally

November 03, 2025

The evil eye, or “Ayn” (العين) in Arabic, is a real and powerful spiritual phenomenon confirmed in Islam. It occurs when someone looks at another person’s blessings with envy or jealousy, causing unseen harm to their health, happiness, or success.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

> “The evil eye is real, and if anything were to overtake destiny, it would be the evil eye.” (Sahih Muslim)

Since the evil eye can affect anyone — adults, children, homes, or businesses — it is important to understand how to protect yourself and your loved ones using the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

1. Daily Recitation for Protection

One of the strongest shields against the evil eye is reciting the Qur’an and daily adhkaar (remembrances). Some essential verses and surahs include:

Surah Al-Falaq (113)

Surah An-Naas (114)

Ayat-ul-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:255)

Last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285–286)

Surah Al-Ikhlas (112)
Recite these regularly in the morning and evening, and also before sleeping. The Prophet ﷺ used to recite these verses every night and blow over himself for protection.

2. Morning and Evening Adhkaar (Supplications)

Regularly reading morning and evening duas creates a divine shield around you. Some powerful adhkaar include:

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ
Bismillah alladhi la yadurru ma‘a ismihi shay’un fi al-ard wa la fi as-sama’ wa huwa as-sami‘u al-‘alim.
(In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing in the earth or the heavens can harm.)
— Sunan Abu Dawood

A‘udhu bi kalimatillahi al-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
(I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He created.)
— Sahih Muslim
These duas should be read after Fajr and Asr to maintain continuous protection throughout the day and night.

3. Gratitude and Avoiding Showing Off

Often, the evil eye comes from envy. Islam encourages believers  be thankful to  Allah  toand avoid showing off their blessings unnecessarily.
If you achieve something good — like success, beauty, or wealth — say:

> “Masha’Allah, La quwwata illa billah”
(As Allah has willed, there is no power except with Allah)
This not only protects your blessing but also reminds others to attribute your success to Allah’s will, not their jealousy.

4. Ruqyah (Spiritual Healing)

Ruqyah Shariyah is the Qur’anic method for protection and healing from the evil eye. You can perform it yourself by reciting the following over yourself, your home, or your family:

1. Surah Al-Fatiha
2. Surah Al-Ikhlas
3. Surah Al-Falaq
4. Surah An-Naas
5. Ayat-ul-Kursi

Blow gently over yourself or your loved ones after reciting these verses. You can also recite and blow over water and drink or sprinkle it around your home.

5. Avoiding Jealousy and Evil Intentions

To truly protect yourself, you must also protect others from your own envy. If you admire someone’s beauty, wealth, or success, make dua for them instead of feeling jealous.
The Prophet ﷺ said:

> “When one of you sees something he likes in his brother, let him pray for blessing for him.” (Ibn Majah)

This beautiful habit spreads positivity and prevents the evil eye from harming others.

6. Keeping Faith and Tawakkul in Allah

Ultimately, the greatest protection comes from trusting Allah (Tawakkul). Remember that no harm can reach you except by Allah’s will.
Stay consistent in salah (prayer), charity (sadaqah), and repentance, and Allah will guard you from hidden evils.

Conclusion

The evil eye is real, but so is Allah’s protection. By staying close to the Qur’an, reciting daily supplications, and living with gratitude and sincerity, you can remain safe from envy and spiritual harm.
Remember: protection begins with faith, and strength comes from reliance on Allah. Keep your heart clean, your tongue in remembrance, and your trust firm in Allah’s mercy.
