How to Protect Yourself from Black Magic (Sihr)

November 07, 2025

Black magic, known as Sihr (سحر) in Arabic, is one of the oldest forms of spiritual harm mentioned in the Qur’an. It involves using forbidden means to control or harm others through the help of jinn and shayateen (devils). Unfortunately, many people today suffer from black magic without realizing it — facing unexplained blockages, fear, depression, or sickness.

The good news is that Islam provides complete protection against black magic through the Qur’an, Sunnah, and daily spiritual practices.
This article explains how you can protect yourself and your family from Sihr safely and effectively.

 1. Strengthen Your Faith and Connection with Allah

The first and most powerful shield against black magic is strong Iman (faith).
When your heart is filled with remembrance of Allah, no evil can overpower you.

Perform your five daily prayers regularly.

Recite Qur’an daily, especially Surah Al-Baqarah, as the Prophet ﷺ said:

> “Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for taking recourse to it is a blessing and giving it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it.” (Sahih Muslim)

Increase Dhikr (remembrance) and Dua to keep your heart connected to Allah.
 2. Recite Daily Protection Duas and Surahs

The Qur’an contains many verses of protection that act as a spiritual shield against all kinds of harm, including black magic and evil eye.
Make these recitations part of your morning and evening routine:

Daily Surahs for Protection

Surah Al-Falaq (113)

Surah An-Naas (114)

Ayat-ul-Kursi (2:255)

Surah Al-Ikhlas (112)

Last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285–286)
These verses are among the most powerful tools for spiritual safety and are used in Ruqyah Shariah (Qur’anic healing).

 3. Keep Your Home Spiritually Clean

Evil energies and jinn are attracted to impurity, neglect, and sin. Keeping your home pure and filled with remembrance drives them away.

Play Qur’an recitation often, especially Surah Al-Baqarah.

Avoid hanging pictures of humans or animals.

Keep your environment clean and perfumed with miswak, oud, or musk.

Do Adhan (call to prayer) in the house.
Remember: The more light of Qur’an you bring into your home, the less darkness of Sihr can exist there.

 4. Avoid Suspicious Healers and Magic Users

Many people, in desperation, turn to fake healers or magicians who claim to help but actually make things worse.
Be careful of anyone who:

Asks for your mother’s name

Uses unknown symbols, numbers, or strange scripts

Demands animals or items for sacrifice

Promises instant results or secret rituals
These practices are not from Islam. A true Raqi (healer) only uses Qur’anic verses, prophetic duas, and halal methods.

 5. Use Ruqyah Shariah for Protection

Ruqyah Shariah is the only authentic Islamic method of removing and preventing black magic. It involves reciting specific Qur’anic verses and supplications over yourself or others with sincere faith.

Simple Ruqyah Steps for Self-Protection:

1. Perform wudu (ablution)
2. Recite Surah Al-Fatiha, Ayat-ul-Kursi, Al-Falaq, and An-Naas
3. Blow lightly into your hands and rub them over your body
4. Drink Ruqyah water (Qur’an-recited water) regularly

With consistency and belief, Ruqyah can remove the effects of Sihr and protect you from future harm.

 6. Charity and Good Deeds as Protection

Good deeds act as spiritual armor. The Prophet ﷺ said that charity extinguishes calamity just as water extinguishes fire.

Give sadaqah (charity) regularly.

Help the needy and make dua for others.

Stay away from sins and doubtful activities.
The more good you do, the less power any evil has over you.

 7. Maintain a Positive and Grateful Heart

Black magic often affects people who fall into constant fear, sadness, or hopelessness. Keep your heart positive with hope, gratitude, and reliance (tawakkul) on Allah.

> Allah says:
“And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him.” (Surah At-Talaq 65:3)

When your heart is strong with tawakkul, Sihr cannot overpower you.

Conclusion

Black magic is real, but so is Allah’s protection, which is far stronger.
No evil can harm a believer who stays connected to Allah, recites the Qur’an regularly, and guards himself with daily duas.
Remember — healing and protection are always in the hands of Allah alone.

Stay steadfast in prayer, keep your home filled with dhikr, and trust that Allah’s mercy is greater than any magic.
